Commander Wedge Antilles
In this post, we will discuss the use of strategy in your attacks against the tiers.
As you move into Tier 3 missions, you will find multi phased missions. These missions will require you to dock with friendly ships, disable and dock with enemy ships, and run escort or decoy missions. Your ships will require a level of diversity in capability.

Edit 1. Basic Fighter Maneuvering
Basic fighter Maneuvering (BFM) is performed by starfighter craft during space combat maneuvering (SCM). They are generally grouped into severa categories.
Learning to manuever your ship and knowing in deep your ship PYR capabilities will be the base for an efective combat.
Read the detailed article for futher info about
starfighter maneuvering Theory.

Edit 2. Disabling Ships
Disabling a ship is required in many circumstances. Most common will be to disable enemy ships to capture plans or technologies.
To disable a ship, you must eat through the shield and armor. To minimize your exposure to enemy fire, ensure you are hitting the ship from only behind or the front. You must take down one of these shields to get to the armor.
Once the armor is gone, you can target a component with the “[“ key. For most fighters, you have the option of killing off the engine or reactor to disable the ship. When either component gets to zero percent, the ship will be disabled.
For ships with multiple weapons, you may want to consider where the guns are placed and where possible blind spots are. Sometimes heavy ships will require you to step through specific processes to disable them.
Lets look closely at the Heavy X Wing Mission profile as an example of disabling tactics. Check the
Heavy X mission guide for full details and corvette tactics.
The best multi role ship available is the Heavy X-wing.
It is very maneuverable, can carry a very large amount of mass (180k), 3 guns, 1 ordnance launcher, and is the poster fighter of the rebel fleet. This ship cannot be crafted. It is a quest reward.
To start this quest series, you must speak with the Kashyyyk station chief and begin doing escort missions for her. You will later be invited to participate in the Civilian Protection Guild. You will be required to land and take-off a few times while talking to the CPG chief, Emma, on the ground in Karicho. When Emya starts talking about a secret rebel station, you are now ready to take on the Heavy X mission.
The next phase is an escort mission for the Rebel Outpost in Kashyyyk space. The profile is short, but intense, and the first time you will encounter Tier 5 fighters in running missions. When complete, you will get a rebel insignia hologram. The next phase is the last… an assault on a stolen rebel corvette. You will be required to disable the corvette. To do this, you will need to close in on the rear side of the vette. You must make sure you are DIRECTLY behind the vette to survive this run.
Depending on your piloting skills and ship equipment, from the back side, you will need to use missiles. Targeting the Shield component, launch your missiles until the component is destroyed. Target the Secondary Shield and again use your missiles.
When both shield components are down, use your blasters on the bottom right or top left engine in the engine cluster. This will knock out the engine, disabling the vette. The danger is to not attempt to fly away from the vette nor to take out any of her guns. It will be aggressive to you and attack you until the cockpit is captured by awaiting rebel crews in the vette. Once captured, it is an escort mission.
You are not out of the woods yet, but you will be thankful for the vette to have the use of her guns. As the first 2 waves of incoming pirate fighters move in on the vette to take her out, the vette will defend itself well. It will also destroy any enemy ship. Do not take this lightly since you will encounter gunboats in the third wave. The gunboats have the ability to take out the Vette’s guns and give you hell. It would behoove you to avoid this by disabling fighters that start attacking you during the escort. Future waves hyper in when the previous wave is down to 1 ship. If you disable targets, you will not get XP or loot, but you will buy yourself a few minutes of time that may mean the difference between mission success or failure.

Edit 3. More on Disabling Tactics:
|
You will notice when it seems like there are endless
waves of ships come to attack you just when you think you have
everything under control.
The best thing to do in this case is to disable ship and slow down the
cycle of new waves. After 5 min, the disabled ships will begin to self
destruct. This includes all kinds of ships except for the Vette.
Often you will come across missions that force you to disable and dock
with a target while taking on a large number of escorts. To prevent your
target from getting away, Try disabling the target first, then deal with
the escorts. Keep in mind the 5 minute self-destruct sequence. The worst
way to fail these kinds of missions is to disable the target, but not
dock with it before it blows up for the sake of taking out escort
fighters.
Application:
Take on the Kashyyyk corvette. You can take this on in a group, but it
is recommended that you at least attempt it solo. Complete the mission
and earn your Heavy X-Wing.
The tactic of disabling ships allows the pilot to remain focused on the
mission at hand, and not on the distraction of repeating waves of
incoming fighters designed to distract you. Never let this distraction
keep you from the mission.
