This article focuses of the building of a new ship. For new pilots, a starter ship is provided by your NPC trainer, already fully equipped and on your datapad. As you outgrow your ship, you will need to buy a new one and new components. We will start this process from purchasing the chassis blueprint.

All of these blueprints and components can be purchased from any shipwright.
Crafted Chasis Blueprint

Crafted Chasis Blueprint

The first step in getting a new ship is to buy a chassis blueprint. Pay attention to the mass on the chassis, and use that, combined with cost, when selecting a blueprint for purchase.

Once purchased, you can either use your existing old components, or purchase new components, paying attention to the mass that your components are consuming. At this point you may consider different components posibilities. Basically you can fit Crafted, Reversed or just looted components.

After you have obtained of the components you need for the ship, you need to locate a chassis Dealer NPC. The closest one to Dantooine is in the Tyrena Starport on Corellia. As you converse with the chassis Dealer, they will identify the blueprint in your inventory for which the chassiswill be built. After selecting the blueprint to use, the NPC will advise you as to if you are certified to use the chassis. The NPC will allow you to have an advanced chassisbe made for you even if you are not certified to fly that chassis.

You will have to pay a nominal fee to have the chassis created.
Ship Deed

Ship Deed

The NPC will give you a deed to the ship. You must generate the ship from the deed in your inventory. The ship will then appear on your datapad, and will be stationed at the starport from which you located the chassis Dealer (this is why you want to have your components with you when you have a ship made, so you can fly away with it when you are done).

The next step is to add your components. They can only be added while at a starship terminal in the starport where the ship is located. When you activate the terminal, you want to select the ship you are about to manipulate.

This new screen will show a quick status of the chassis and all installed components. You should only see a blank chxxxis until you being adding the components. To do this, click the “Manage” button.

In the management screen, you will see a listing of all available slots for components on your chassis. To add a component, click on the component type in the window to reveal the drop down menu. If you click on Reactor, it will display all reactors in your inventory from which you can select. If the reactor name is shaded, you are not certified to use that level item. Highlight the reactor you wish to use, and click on the add button under the component stats. If the stats appear in the right-most window, then the component is successfully loaded.

Remember, you only need to load a reactor and an engine to use your ship. You should load all components at one time. If you tracked mass and reactor drain correctly, you will be able to install all desired parts without overloading the mxxx, and the energy numbers at the bottom of the window will not turn red. The stats at the bottom are the totals for your ship at that point in time with your current loadout.

The Basic Starships Travel and Basic Flight article will be how to travel in your starship, from ground to ground starports, and by hyperspacing (the scenic tour).
